Ceremony Locations & Officiators

Couples have found a number of creative and memorable places on Nantucket to tie the knot. Ceremonies have been held at the island's lighthouses, at sea aboard charter boats, in the Jared Coffin House garden, and on Nantucket's pristine beaches. Some island inns have public rooms and gardens that can accommodate a small ceremony, and there are rental properties that have plenty of room to accommodate a ceremony, reception, and to house your guests.

The first step to holding a ceremony on private or public property is to get permission and/or permits approved.  Here is contact information:

At the Beach

Many beaches are public, but not all. Here is a list of island beaches popular for gatherings and the organizations to contact about permits:

Brant Point: Ceremony only.  Contact the Coast Guard Station at Brant Point at 508-228-0398 and ask for the SK2 for permit information.

Children’s Beach, Dionis Beach, Francis Street Beach, Madaket Beach, Surfside Beach, Codfish Park (‘Sconset): Contact the Nantucket Parks & Recreation Commission at 508-228-7213.

Fisherman’s Beach, Smith’s Point, South Shore Beach: Contact the Board of Selectmen’s office at 508-228-7255.

Jetties Beach: Contact the Concessionaire, currently J. Marshall Thompson at The Jetties at 508-228-2279.

Cisco Beach, Ladies’ Beach, Miacomet Beach & Pond, 40th Pole, Quidnet Beach (pond side) Low Beach (‘Sconset): Modest ceremonies may be permitted.  Contact the Nantucket Islands Land Bank at 508-228-7240.

Quidnet Beach (ocean side): Contact the Mass Audubon at 508-228-9208.

Nobadeer Beach: Contact the Nantucket Airport Administration at 508-325-5300.

Hummock Pond Beach, Eel Point, Washing Pond: Ceremony only. Some areas closed for nesting birds at certain times. Contact Tom Lennon at the Nantucket Conservation Foundation at 508-228-2884 .
